Hiram Abiff is a character in an allegorical play presented in Freemasonry. In the play Hiram is presented as a being the chief archetitect of King Solomon's Temple, who is murdered by three ruffians during their unsuccessful attempt to force him to divulge the Master Mason's seceret password. The story is a lesson in fidelity to one's word and the brevity of life.
