Pancho Villa's Columbus Raid Photo
10"x58" photograph of Columbus, NM
dated 1916 by J.U. Medley

depicts the border town shortly after the March 19th raid by 500-600 of Pancho Villa's army. This was the last time the lower 48 was invaded by a foriegn army. The event lead to world-wide news coverage and the dispatch of General Pershing and several thousand troops to make a punitive search some 300 miles into Mexico in search of Villa.

The image itself has striking detail. Two soldiers can be seen on the crossroads and many of the storefronts can be identified.
